Joelle Rene’ – Artist Biography
Faerie and Fantasia Artist Joelle Rene’ began her professional career as a pastel artist more than twenty years ago, capturing the vivid hues of the world around her in the high mountain desert of Santa Fe, NM. Having studied with art masters from around the globe, she understood the importance of composition and form, lost and found edges and quality of line, but it was the intense color that radiated in the brilliant light of Santa Fe that captured her heart. Eventually she dabbled in pen and ink and watercolor, producing over a hundred paintings before moving on to something new
something completely different. With infinite thanks to her husband who purchased her first Wacom tablet – Joelle began painting digitally. From the first strokes of paint on her digital tablet she found herself immersed in the realm of Faerie.
For Joelle, painting was the answer to her lifelong question – “What am I supposed to do?” The divergent paths of her life created an interesting tapestry of memories: dog groomer, software engineer, belly dancer, kick boxing instructor, writer, and even a black belt in Tae Kwon Do
but none of these efforts yielded the peace of knowing that you are, to the best of your ability, following your heart. Eventually the laws of motion come into play and you settle into doing what you were meant to do.
Joelle currently resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and two dachshund puppies, Calvin and Hobbes. Her house is nestled in forest of poplar, dogwood and mountain laurel which provides a mist shrouded sanctuary like the mythical land of Brigadoon – yet she longs to return to the Southwest with its endless skies of Cerulean Blue and a moon so big it takes your breath away.
When asked to describe her painting process and subject matter, Joelle had this to say
“My artwork begins with photo shoots of live models - I have several beautiful and very talented young ladies that pose for me. Often I will tell them what emotion I am trying to capture. Other times I will just let them play and see what unfolds. These models have been such a gift to me, for it is the look in their eyes or the way they hold their mouth that tells the story. From this spark of life the paintings unfold. Although these beauties are depicted with glitter and wings, it is a very human tale I am trying to tell. I render these delicate fae and children of the sea to help me understand this world of dreams we live in and this enchantment we call life. If life is really mere illusion, then I choose to have magic in mine.”
And for her fellow Artists
“There are so many excellent fantasy artists out there
My thanks to you for all your inspiration and support and for the magical visions you have created. You have enriched my world with your creations. Let us together render these faerie realms. May we paint until our last breath is drawn and then leave behind this stuff of dreams.”
